Peruvian American filmmaker, producer, and development executive Adri Murguia focuses on character-driven documentary storytelling across film and television.
She got her start in documentary at Vice Media, where she developed a focus on subcultures and internet-driven phenomena, shaping her interest in stories that sit at the intersection of pop culture and real-life stakes behind the headlines.
Murguia co-created, directed, and executive produced the debut season of Slutever for Viceland, which premiered in 2018 to coverage from The New York Times, The New Yorker, Vogue, and The Guardian, among others, with a second season released in 2019. Her work has been recognized by GLAAD and Stonewall, and her films have screened internationally at festivals including CPH:DOX, Newfest, and SF Docs among others. She also holds VICE’s most-watched documentary video, with over 90 million views on YouTube.
She has held development executive roles at Jeffrey Katzenberg’s Quibi and at The Walt Disney Company, where she developed original documentary films and series for their platforms. She has also led development for boutique production companies such as All Facts, the nonfiction prodco behind HBO’s 2023 hit series Telemarketers, building and packaging a slate of original documentary projects and pitching directly to buyers across platforms.
Murguia holds a Bachelor’s degree from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and Steinhardt, with a focus on Media Studies, Semiotics, and Film Production. She speaks four languages, has lived in eight countries, and has filmed across five continents. She is currently based in Los Angeles, where she develops and produces documentary films and series independently.
